Don’t Be Tempted by “Cheap” Hire
In aviation, safety is everything. Low prices can sometimes mask poor standards, such as aircraft maintained on a parking apron by unqualified individuals, or even self-maintenance without proper oversight. That’s not just unacceptable; it’s unsafe.
Protect yourself before you fly:
Ask for maintenance proof. Request recent work packs, logbook entries, and release to service certificates.
Verify CAMO involvement. Ask for the contract or letter of engagement with the CAMO/maintenance organisation responsible for continuing airworthiness.
Confirm who did the work. Ensure maintenance was carried out by competent, approved technicians at a VAT-registered Part-145/Part-CAO organisation (as applicable).
Check the ARC and AD/SB status. Confirm the Airworthiness Review Certificate is current and mandatory directives are complied with.
Inspect presentation. A well-kept aircraft and orderly tech logs are strong indicators of a well-run operation.
